After 3 years we can finally continue working on our dear hybrid documentary "Pharmakoi. Let the sea take away all the evil", thanks to the wonderful support of the Sacatar Foundation. We are much looking forward to meet again the great Sacatar team and the welcoming people from Itaparica who made our first stay so heartwarming and memorable. Our automata are impatiently waiting in their stable and I am much looking forward to this adventure with artists Camila Gregório, Erick Lawrence, Jamile Cazumbà and Maarten Dirickx. Many thanks to Krater Films and VAF for your belief in our project. We wish the Itaparicans good health and strength to overcome these rough times.

Within the framework of #StaycationBXL and #Zomer in Jette we have created a new automaton of a cat.
This damned cat is a witness to the times where cats were scapegoated for the sake of our ancestors.
We bring back the damned cat and reenact her sad story in the decor of contemporary Brussels.

As in 2018, the curators of this art exhibition are the Belgian artists Reniere&Depla, a duo of artists who moved to Autun three years ago. They aim at showing works that move and amaze, with which they have a strong connection. Thirty-three artists from France and Belgium have been selected for this second edition, with a dialogue between modern and contemporary works, and a mix of well-known names with up and coming artists.

Het nieuwe theaterproject "Stick together" is geselecteerd voor de cross-over pitch, georganiseerd door deAuteurs, VAF en VAF Gamefonds in het kader van Theater aan Zee.​
Gedurende drie dagen werd dit project onder begeleiding van coaches klaargestoomd voor een pitchsessie op Theater aan Zee. In oktober 2019 gingen de repetities van start met tien Brusselse spelers.

To stimulate new talent and high level documentary production, IDFAcademy organizes year-round training programs for emerging filmmakers. During IDFA festival 2018, I was selected with the project Pharmakoi to take part in the IDFA Academy, attend the masterclasses on documentary film making, elaborate the project under the supervision of professional coaches and exchange experiences with fellow film makers.

Berlinale Talents is the annual summit and networking platform of the Berlin International Film Festival for 250 outstanding creatives from the fields of film and drama series. Short Film Station offers Talents the opportunity to further develop their short film script and meet with potential partners to produce their film.

"Met 7000 solliciteerden ze voor een plaats bij de Berlinale Talents 2018 maar er waren slechts 250 uitverkorenen uit 81 landen. Toptalent Laura Vandewynckel die op Film Fest Gent in 2014 met haar afstudeerproject ‘Het Paradijs' debuteerde, is er een van.
Laura Vandewynckel, bekend van de animatiefilms ‘Het Paradijs’ en ‘Pharmakos’ is een van de zes landgenoten die geselecteerd werden voor Berlinale Talents 2018, een initiatief van het Filmfestival van Berlijn waarbij jong en aanstormend filmtalent zes dagen lang een professioneel filmbad krijgt bestaande uit seminaries, workshops, coaching en alles wat maar met film te maken heeft."

Euro Connection is the European Short Film Co-production Forum taking place each year at the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Market. This business platform aims at fostering partnerships between European production companies, funders and broadcasters for short film projects.

The next edition of Euro Connection will take place on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 February 2018 during the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Market. Euro Connection is organised by Sauve Qui Peut le Court Métrage (Clermont-Ferrand) in association with the Centre National du Cinéma et de l’Image Animée, with the support of the Creative Europe MEDIA sub-programme and the PROCIREP.

​Met haar afstudeerfilm Het Paradijs schopte Laura Vandewynckel (°1986) het in 2014 meteen tot in Cannes. In eigen land leverde diezelfde kortfilm haar de SABAM-prijs van Anima op én een Wildcard van het Vlaams Audiovisueel Fonds. Sindsdien is ze druk bezig met nieuwe films en crossover-projecten.

SIFNOS PROJECT 'PHARMAKOS': a short documentary with live animation

Two strangers disembark on the coast of the idyllic Greek island Sifnos. They are offered to the people of Sifnos for the reenactment of the ancient Greek Pharmakos ritual.

Every year, one of the selected directors of the Cannes/Cinéfondation la Sélection competition is offered the chance to direct an improvised short film in the Greek island of Sifnos. The film is produced by EZ Films and Horsefly Productions. 'Pharmakos' is a 13 minutes documentary with puppets about the psychological mechanism of scapegoating.

Binnen het 'Short Cuts' programma krijgt de korte animatiefilm Het paradijs van Laura Vandewynckel zijn Canadese première. De stopmotion poppenfilm is een sociaalkritische reflectie over toerisme en migratie en was dit jaar nog geselecteerd voor de Cinéfondation in Cannes. Vandewynckel won er eveneens een VAF Wildcard mee.

Paradise has been invited to participate in the Cannes International Film Festival as a part of the 2015 Cinéfondation Selection. Created in 1998 and devoted to the search for new talent, the Cinéfondation selects short and medium-length films from film schools all over the world. To mark its 18th year, the Cinéfondation Selection has chosen 18 films from among the 1,600 works submitted this year.

The Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF) has announced this year’s Wildcard winners: six promising young filmmakers who will each receive a grant of between €25,000 and €60,000 to develop their first professional film. Since it was introduced in 2005, the Fund’s Wildcard competition has established itself as Belgium’s prime awards programme when it comes to launching new talent. The animation grant, worth €60,000, went to Paradise.
